Some Garden Porn...

So, I have been promising some pictures... and today I finally had a chance to get out in the garden with a camera!  The following is a photo journey through my gardens, although there are a few things I have missed, I am sure.  Everything is really starting to take off, and I think I might actually have some success this year!  I'm so excited!!!

Anyway, here are the pictures!

Blue Shrimp Flower

My outdoor tomato experiment...

Raspberries!!!

Alaskan Wildflower Beds

The Rhubarb is happy to finally be transplanted

Strawberries

New Gooseberry seedlings

Got the new compost pile started

Snap Pea seedlings

Swiss Chard

Broccoli, Turnip, Leek, Green Onion, Kale, Spinach, Lettuce and Radishes

Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Yellow Onion, and White Onion

The first of 78 green bean seeds to sprout...

I'm not even using my greenhouse this year, just this improvised hot house made with recycled tent poles.

Eggplant, 4 types of summer squash, tomatoes and cucumbers

The squash looks very content!

It has been wonderful to spend so much time in the garden lately, but its really nice to have everything planted and just need to water and occasionally pull a weed.  I will be planting some more radishes and lettuce within the next day or so, depending on how Lily feels about being in the stroller outside!  She really enjoys watering the garden with me, watching my every move very carefully from her perch on my hip.  I may have a second little gardener in training!

Question for my readers... is anyone harvesting anything yet?  I have been using the herbs and lettuce, but I can't wait until the other veggies start making their appearances on the dinner table!

  1. Great pictures, Your raised beds are so neat and done very well. I was going to ask what type of soil you have but i can see you do need to have raised beds and container gardens. Plus having a compost well really build up some nice soil . It all looks great. What a view you have.

I remember with my first little gardener on my hip in the garden. Time passed and now I carry a grandkiddy or two picking peas and eating them right in the garden. Enjoy the time, it goes fast.

I doubt i'll get a first tomato by the 4th of July. So much rain , crops got in late. But beans are blooming and they will come on fast. Just been eating lettuce, onions and herbs. Waiting for the new potatoes. We are in Zone 5/6

  2. Yes, the view is AMAZING! The picture I used for my blog title is actually Denali (Mt. McKinley to those outside of Alaska) taken from my deck! I did have to have topsoil brought in for the gardens. The raised beds have a layer of straw, followed by a layer of compost and steer manure, then a top layer of 1 bale of pro-mix blended with the topsoil. I fertilize only with an Organic Alaskan fish fertilizer.

  4. Nice! You have given me some good ideas about how to do some new parts of my garden.

I have my hot house up again and I actually HAVE tomatoes on the vine, as well as a bunch of peppers. I have harvested some parsley, dill, chives and basil already and dehydrated them.

I haven't been to the garden in almost 2 weeks, but i am sure everything is chugging along.
